Diver dead after drowning in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, deputies say

A man was found dead in the ocean late Friday night, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m., near 100 Palm Avenue in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a possible drowning, and BSO’s deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded. Upon arrival, they discovered the adult male diver, whose name has not been released, dead in the water.

BSO’s Dive Team was deployed to recover the body, and the Homicide and Crime Scene units also responded to the scene to investigate. The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.

At this stage, authorities do not suspect any foul play.
