A fire that began in an office of Hollywood Chrysler Jeep's showroom early Sunday sent thick black smoke through the building, leaving four cars, the walls and the carpet covered in soot.
"It's going to be a while before they are going to be able to use it," said Hollywood Fire Batallion Chief John Kuklinski.
Fire Rescue was called at about 5:30 a.m. to the dealership at 2100 North State Rd. 7. When firefighters arrived, “the office was fully engulfed,” Kuklinski said.
Kuklinski said more than 50 firefighters ended up working the blaze that destroyed the office and left the showroom in “bad shape.”
The dealership was not open at the time of the fire and no one was hurt.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Kuklinski said a faulty surge protector may be to blame.
No vehicles outside were damaged in the fire.
By Sunday afternoon, Kuklinski said the dealership was open, but power had been shut off and phone lines were down.
