Coast Guard rescues Miami boater missing on the ocean for a day
The Coast Guard has found a Miami-Dade boater missing at sea since Friday night.
On Saturday night, a Coast Guard airplane crew spotted Eugene Russell, 50, in his 22-foot boat about 25 miles off North Miami Beach. The Coast Guard Cutter Richard Etheridge reached Russell around 8:30 p.m. and took him to Fort Lauderdale, where he was reunited with his wife. He was not hurt.
His wife reported Russell overdue on his Friday evening return after going out on a 22-foot yellow open concept boat. On Saturday afternoon, the boat Betty K VIII informed the Coast Guard in Miami that the crew saw a yellow boat with a man in a yellow life jacket waving his arms and pointing to his engine.
