Cinemex movie theater coming to Miami’s Brickell City Centre
A new luxury movie theater will open in Miami’s Brickell Avenue area, when Mexico City-based Cinemex opens its first cinema in the United States at Brickell City Centre, developer Swire Properties said Wednesday.
The 35,677-square-foot dine-in cinema will open in 2016, and is geared to fill the void for movie theaters in the Brickell district, Swire said.
Cinemex has partnered with Mikel Alonso, chef of the top Mexican restaurant Biko, to develop a 622-seat, dine-in theater experience with oversized leather seats in 11 viewing rooms. Cinemex has also tapped celebrated Mexico City mixologist Mica Rousseau to work with Alonso.
The company has hired Mexico City-based Loguer Design, which has its U.S. headquarters in Miami, to design the interior and exterior of the theater.
Brickell City Centre, a $1.05 billion mixed-use development spanning 9.1 acres, will include an underground carpark and 565,000 square feet of shopping and entertainment anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue. The project will also include two residential towers, 263-room hotel with 89 serviced apartments, a wellness center and Class-A offices.
