Silvercar, an app-based all-Audi car rental service operating in Miami and other locations, began taking reservations Monday for rentals in Fort Lauderdale starting May 15.
Upon landing at the Fort Lauderdale-International, travelers use the Silvercar mobile app (iPhone or Android) to notify the local concierge team. The app then navigates the customer through the airport to the pickup point, where the customer unlocks a new, fully loaded silver AudiA4 – including Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi – by scanning a QR code on the vehicle’s windshield. Silvercar does not have airport counters or queuing lines; everything, from reservations to payment is handled within the app. “Silvercar is a bit of Uber meets Virgin America meets Audi all-in-one – it’s designed to simplify and upgrade the airport car rental experience,” said Silvercar CEO Luke Schneider, when the service launched in Miami.
Normal pricing is $59 a day, but it is based on demand and caps at $89/day. Once customers sign up for the app, they will be notified of periodic specials.
Fort Lauderale-Hollywood International Airport’s service follows the company’s launch at Miami International last summer. Founded in 2012, Silvercar is also available in Austin, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco, with plans to roll out in Chicago and at least three other markets this year.
