When the bidding deadline hit last Friday, two developers — Portman Holdings and Oxford Capital Group — had submitted proposals to construct the long-discussed new hotel at the Miami Beach Convention Center, city officials said.
The city of Miami Beach plans to lease land behind the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater for the hotel, which is part of a wider renovation of the convention center.
This is an instant replay for Atlanta-based developer Portman, which bid on a previous iteration of the request-for-proposal, which it included the convention center itself. Oxford Capital, headquartered in Chicago, which focuses on hotel, resort and convention center developments in the Midwest and on the east coast, is partnering with Phoenix-based RLB Swerdling for its proposal.
Details of the proposals will be released 30 days after their submission or once city manager Jimmy Morales makes a recommendation on the bids, whichever comes first, said Alex Denis, director of Miami Beach’s Procurement Department.
