Why he’s Food 50: The Naples-born chef has righted the ship at a casual Italian spot in Midtown.
Energetic, lovable Nunzio Fuschillo is the third chef to lead the kitchen of 2-year-old Bocce. And he appears to be the right fit, lifting the restaurant to a 3-star Miami Herald review in December by showcasing the rustic comforts of Italian cooking.
Fuschillo’s fresh mozzarella, housemade pastas and hand-tossed pizzas benefit from the effort and care that go into traditional cooking methods. He rotates in specials — like an untraditional white lasagna with potato, gorgonzola and pancetta — and keeps them on the menu based on what his guests are responding to. He also has one of the more entertaining Instagram accounts of Miami chefs, alternating posts of kitchen shots and downtime with his newlywed wife, Bourbon Steak pastry chef Patty Lopez.
