Elderly man missing since Christmas Eve found dead by police

Doral Police believe the body found in a canal Saturday morning was an elderly man recently reported missing by his family.

Juan DaCosta, who disappeared on Christmas Eve at 7 p.m., was found by police in a lake in the back of his house, police said. DaCosta, 89, was described as someone who was “easily disoriented” and last seen wearing a white, button-down shirt and blue jeans.

Doral Police found DaCosta’s body at 9:15 a.m. near Northwest 111 Court and Northwest 54 Street in the canal, but Miami Dade Police Department’s Homicide Bureau will investigate the death. The Medical Examiner’s Office will later determine the cause of death and officially identify the body.
