Police: Miami Jackson student found with loaded gun on campus
A student at Miami Jackson Senior High was found Wednesday with a loaded gun on campus, according to law enforcement officials.
Miami police and federal agents had been at Jackson searching for 17-year-old Jason Villatoro, who was wanted on a separate weapons charge. Police discovered the firearm after taking Villatoro into custody and patting him down, according to a police report.
Villatoro faces charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and using a weapon while committing a felony. Police say Villatoro was riding in a car on Nov. 1 in the area of Southwest 30th Avenue and Sixth Street in Miami when the driver hit someone on a bicycle. Villatoro got out of the car and pointed a gun at the victim, whom he knew, according to a police report. Villatoro and the driver then circled the block looking for the victim, according to police.
Miami-Dade Schools Police spokesman Raul Correa said the student is likely to face an additional charge of possession of a firearm on school grounds.
