Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens is opening Thursday night. Here are the previous six episodes in 11 simple charts:
Duels and Deaths
With nearly 12 minutes worth of lightsaber duels, Episode III – Revenge of the Sith has four times as much saber action as the other movies.
Never miss a local story.
Anakin/Darth Vader is the character with the most kills throughtout the franchise, and he made 90 percent of them as Anakin in Episode I-III.
Are stormtroopers as bad of shot as people say? One thing is sure: kill count went down with each movie, peaking with 26 kills in Episode IV – A New Hope and plummeting to just 12 in Episode VI — Return of the Jedi. The biggest blood bath? The Battle of Hoth in Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back.
Standing at 9-foot-10-inches, Hutt are the tallest species. Gungan, the shortest species on the list, aren’t short at all. They stand 6-foot-3-inches.
Bespin is the biggest planet in the Star Wars universe. Its 118,000 km diameter makes it roughtly the size of Saturn. In contrast, Earth’s diameter is a mere 12,750 km.
Coruscant has a population of one trillion, or roughtly 143 Coruscanti for each human on Earth. Nal Hutta’s population of seven billion makes it most similar to Earth’s.
RZ-1 A-Wing Interceptors are the fastest starships and were used by the Rebel Alliance. The Empire’s Twin Ion Engine Advanced X1 was the second fastest.
If you look strictly at inflation-adjusted U.S. box office, Episode IV swept the floors with the later installments.
Each new episode has made more money than the previous at the box office on opening weekend. With inflation factored in, Episode VII is estimated to gross 2.6 times as much as the first three movies (Episode IV-VI) combined.
While each subsequent movie has grossed more than the previous at the box office, not all have cost more than their predecessor to produce. Episode VII cost the most, though, with a $200 million production budget.
OK enough with the past. Here’s where you can watch Episode VII (if you can get your hands on tickets!) and a little background on its star-studded cast.
