“I’m reading Almost Famous Women by Megan Mayhew Bergman, a collection of short stories featuring real women throughout history who courted but never quite achieved fame. Bergman drew inspiration from these unusual women’s stories but doesn’t stay inside the lines when she puts them into the imagined contexts that illustrate their unique personalities and perspectives. My favorite is A High-Grade Bitch Sits Down for Lunch, about one of my historical heroines, the aviator and badass Beryl Markham.”
