Sebastian the Ibis of the University of Miami is a champion again, helping the Florida Hospital for Children Blue Team win Day One (June 17) of the 23rd Mascot Games at the Amway Center in Orlando.
Team Blue -- captained by Fin, the crowd pleasing mascot of the NHL Vancouver Canucks -- won the Balloon and Joust events en route to the team trophy. Last year, Sebastian helped the OUC Reliable One Green Team win the trophy on Day Two.
A repeat champion, Sebastian proudly held the trophy solo, with his captain Fin and with his team. Fans in attendance made the U sign with their hands, and Sebastian reciprocated, enjoying the moment.
The Day One Champion Florida Hospital for Children Blue Team: Champ (NBA Dallas Mavericks); Lil Red (NCAA University of Nebraska); Sebastian the Ibis (NCAA University of Miami); Shades (ECHL Orlando Solar Bears); Thunderbug (NHL Tampa Bay Lightning); and Team Captain Fin (NHL Vancouver Canucks).

Fin and Champ were awesome, sharing co-MVP honors. N.J. Devil of the NHL New Jersey Devils not only captained the Fields Auto Group Red Team, but he was very interactive with the crowd, putting a lot of smiles on faces with his shenanigans.
During the Day One competition, the OUC Reliable One Green Team, captained by Mascot Games host Stuff of the NBA Orlando Magic, won musical chairs, and the Truly Nolen Yellow Team, captained by Captain Fear of the NFL Tampa Buccaneers, finished first in the football toss. The Fields Auto Group Red Team, captained by NJ Devil of the NHL New Jersey Devils and featuring Stanley C. Panther of ‘your’ Florida Panthers NHL hockey team, placed first in the obstacle course.
On Day Two, the Truly Nolen Yellow Team, captained by Captain Fear of the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the team trophy.
The Day Two Champion Truly Nolen Yellow Team: Franklin (NBA Philadelphia 76ers); Howler (NHL Arizona Coyotes); Knightro (NCAA University of Central Florida); Louie (NHL St. Louis Blues); Rowdy (NFL Dallas Cowboys); and Team Captain - Captain Fear (NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers).
Canada was well represented at the Mascot Games with Carlton of the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs and Fin the Whale of the NHL Vancouver Canucks. Fin, who traveled the farthest to Orlando, competed in his 13th Mascot Games.
Scotty B did his usual awesome job as emcee. Guest appearances included Wawa mascot Wally Goose, and the Florida Dairy Farmers’ Merry Moo and SunnyBell, and the Truly Nolen mouse limo and its driver Jack Martin.
Stanley C. Panther of the NHL Florida Panthers once again did a good job, but his team -- The Fields Auto Group Red Team, captained by NJ Devil of the NHL New Jersey Devils -- did not win the team trophy. Last year, Stanley captained the Truly Nolen Yellow Team to a runner-up finish each day. Hopefully, the third time is the charm for this cool cat as Stanley will look to bring home that elusive trophy next year.
With the recent tragedies in Orlando, the mascots -- led by host mascot Stuff of the NBA Orlando Magic -- showed their support, standing united as one.

About the Mascot Games
The Mascot Games returned to the Amway Center in June for two entertaining shows in Orlando.
Hosted by New Hope for Kids, the 23rd version was presented by Wawa, the prominent convenience retail store chain now with 85 locations in Central Florida.
“The Mascot Games Presented by Wawa truly is one of Central Florida’s most unique and entertaining family events and annually raises valuable profile and funds for New Hope for Kids,” said David Joswick, Executive Director of New Hope for Kids. “We could not have such a tremendous impact without our sponsors, and we would like to sincerely thank Wawa for their continuing sponsorship this year.”
All proceeds from the Mascot Games Presented by Wawa benefit New Hope for Kids, which provides support to children and families grieving the death of a loved one, and grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses in Central Florida.
Mascot Games Event Manager Gloria Capozzi said: “Wawa has demonstrated what a perfect partnership can be. They have been involved with the Mascot Games since they opened their first store in Orlando. We celebrate their growth in our community and commitment to New Hope for Kids.”
Twenty-three of the best and most popular mascots from across North America joined Orlando Magic’s STUFF -- the event’s host mascot and recently honored as one of the best mascots in sports -- for the annual competition.
Mascots from MLB, NFL, MLS, NBA, NHL, and NCAA were divided into four teams as they competed against each other in wild and zany games to determine the true champions of the mascot world.
