1. MARLINS

Stanton, Ichiro on stage as season resumes: Playoff-chasing Fish hope Giancarlo Stanton’s record-setting Home Run Derby carries over with season’s second half underway. Crowd-shy team’s next hope: That Ichiro’s upcoming 3,000th hit comes during homestand.

2. HURRICANES

ACC Kickoff means season near: Canes reinstated RB Mark Walton after DUI charge was dropped, now head to Charlotte for ACC media events Thursday. UM reps will be coach Mark Richt, QB Brad Kaaya and, for reasons unclear, punter Justin Vogel.

3. GOLF

Old Mickelson in hunt at British Open: Phil Mickelson, nearly as old as golf itself, opened with a majors-record-tying 63 and led entering the weekend at the British Open in Scotland. Will he raise the claret jug on Sunday? Probably not. Fun to imagine, though!

4. DOLPHINS

Fins catch break with Brady suspension: Appeals court upheld four-game ban for Patriots QB Tom Brady. Meanwhile, Dolphins were valued at $1.85 billion by Forbes, a 42 percent increase. Meaning Stephen Ross already has his $$$ back on stadium renovations.

5. CYCLING

Tour de France goes on with heavy hearts: Spot could have gone to Heat ending Summer League play, NBA stars’ message to open ESPYs, Tim Duncan retiring or UFC selling for $4 billion. Instead we marvel at France’s spirit in wake of latest terror attacks that killed so many in Nice.
