Captain Mark Schmidt of Sun Dancer Charters out of Murray’s Marina in Key West reported that during a recent offshore charter, a client caught and released an estimated 150-pound blue marlin. … Fishing aboard 34 boats, 83 anglers participated in the 2nd Annual Ladies Dolphin Tournament in Tavernier. Sidney Valdes of Marathon, Tiara and Tiffany Wheaton of Key Largo and Tracey Reilly of Key Largo took first-place honors. The anglers had a combined total of 64.9 pounds of dolphin. The ladies fished aboard the boat Hooked Up with Mark Wheaton and mate Danny Vinco.

For the anglers that are on the water early, large sea trout are crushing top water baits and soft plastics fished over the shallow grass flats that have pot holes.
Fishing in Florida Bay with live finger mullet suspended from a Cajun Thunder float, Harris Mones of Miami, and his daughter Alissa and sibling Joey Hammer — both from Illinois — caught a dozen snook to 28 inches, two slot-size redfish, a tarpon plus a bunch of sharks, jacks, snappers and ladyfish. Most of the action took place along the mangrove shorelines north of the Flamingo boat ramp. Captain Alan Sherman of Get Em Sportfishing Charters guided them to their catches.
Captain Terry Pitz of Fishing Southwest Florida fishing charters out of St. James City reported that tarpon have showed up in his area along the beaches, in the passes and up in the rivers. The tarpon are in the 60- to 200-pound range and have been responding to live baits, artificial lures as well as flies. Snook have stationed themselves in their spawning areas around the beaches, creek and river mouths and over the flats. The snook are striking live baits and artificial lures. Redfish have been tailing over the shallow grass flats and along the bars.
Local anglers Mary and Gil Muratori fished with guide Butch Moser in the Lake Ida area and caught and released 35 largemouth bass to four pounds, peacock bass, gar, sunshine bass and catfish. All of the fish were caught on live baits and four to 6-pound line. … Guide Alan Zaremba reported a new record was set recently when anglers Ed White and his 14 year old nephew Max of Pinecrest caught 216 largemouth bass in the L-6 canal. All of the bass were caught on Rapala floating minnows and soft plastics during a half day of fishing.
