NHL overall top pick Aaron Ekblad to debut at Florida Panthers’ development camp

Some of the top young players in the Panthers organization will be on display this week in Coral Springs at the team's development camp.

Defenseman Aaron Ekblad, the top overall pick at last month's draft, will make his South Florida debut on Monday afternoon in the opening day of the camp.

Ekblad will be joined by some of Florida's other recent high draft picks including center Aleksander Barkov (second overall in 2013) and Boston College defenseman Michael Matheson (23rd in 2012).

All of Florida's most recent selections in the draft are expected to participate.

The first on-ice session begins Monday at 1:15 p.m. at the Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs with morning workouts on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. All practices are free and open to the public.

Aside from Florida prospects, the Panthers have also invited a few free agents for a look. Two of which — Cody Payne of Weston and Colin Sullentrop from Plantation — began playing hockey in South Florida.
