Miami Dolphins’ Jonathan Martin sits out vs. Bengals, posts comments on Facebook

Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin might have missed Thursday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he apparently didn’t hold his tongue.

According to Pro Football Talk, Martin took to Facebook to communicate with the outside world for the first time since abruptly leaving the team Monday.

“Happy Halloween!” the website quoted Martin as writing. “Don’t believe everything you read.”

Martin added: “Opinions are like [expletives], everyone has one.”

Martin’s Facebook profile is restricted to friends only, so the message wasn’t publicly available. The Dolphins officially ruled out Martin earlier in the day Thursday. Martin, listed on the injury report as having an illness, left the team Monday to seek treatment for emotional issues, multiple sources have told the Miami Herald.

Tyson Clabo started at right tackle in his place.

The organization is giving Martin wide latitude in deciding when he wants to return to the team, and there has been no return date set, according to a Dolphins source. The club is concerned about the relationship between Martin and some teammates.

Martin abruptly left the team after an apparent prank gone bad in the team’s lunchroom Monday. He hasn’t been back.

The team never explained his absence Monday or Tuesday beyond simply saying he had an illness. He was listed as doubtful on Wednesday’s injury report. All of which was in compliance with league rules, the Miami Herald has learned.
