Chad Johnson, the former Miami Dolphins wide receiver who went on the lam after failing to check in with his probation officer, spent Monday in the Broward County jail before posting bail and being released.
An arrest warrant was issued last week for the former NFL player when he skipped town and missed two check-ins with his probation officer in February and March.
On Thursday, he tweeted that he was “Chilly in Pasadena.’’
On Monday, he was standing in a Broward courtroom, accused of not attending a court-ordered domestic violence counseling program, the Broward State Attorney’s office said.
Johnson was arrested in August, accused of head-butting his wife of one month, Evelyn Lozada. The newlyweds were fighting about a receipt for condoms Lozada had found in Johnson’s car. She said he head-butted her.
That same day, the six-time Pro-Bowler was cut by the Dolphins.
He’s been “richly unemployed” since then.
Johnson, who for a time had legally changed his name to “Chad Ochocinco” — after his jersey number, 85 — pleaded no contest in September to misdemeanor domestic violence charges. He was sentenced to one year’s probation and ordered to undergo counseling.
He and Lozada had a whirlwind courtship on the TV reality show Basketball Wives. At the time of their domestic dispute, the couple were in negotiations with VH1 for another reality TV series called Ev and Ocho.
