The Miami Dolphins acknowledged the tragic passing of Jose Fernandez with a moment of silence before kickoff of their home opener against the Cleveland Browns Sunday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium.

Fernandez, the Marlins ace, was one of three killed in a boating accident at Government Cut in Miami Beach early Sunday morning.

The Marlins canceled their game against the Braves Sunday; the Dolphins’ game against the Browns went on as planned.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Jose Fernandez and the entire Marlins organization,” the team said in a written statement.

Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel added on Twitter: “Terrible, terrible news. Sincere condolences to Jose's family, friends, and the @Marlins organization.”
