The background: "Do I want to win or get paid?" The Big 3 signed six-year contracts in 2010. James and Bosh would each earn $20.6 million next year, then $22.1 million; Wade, $20.2 million and $21.7 million. By opting out of these final two years of the contract, each could leave, or he could re-up in Miami with a substantial pay cut. The Heat would then have room in the salary cap to go after an unrestricted free agent. James, however, is seeking the maximum available contract. Free agency began July 1.
