Big plays lead North Miami to victory over Miami High

North Miami came up with big plays all night to defeat Miami High in its season opener at North Miami Stadium.

The Pioneers' defense scored on a 25-yard fumble recovery by Deandre Richard, had a blocked a field goal and came up with a goal line stand at the 1.

North Miami (1-0) led 14-0 at halftime and scored 21 third quarter points.

"We started good and built momentum, but we can't be satisfied with this. We need to keep pounding to become a playoff team," Richard said.

Jean Colson had two touchdown receptions and 135 receiving yards. Sophomore running back Jacquez Stuart rushed for 100 yards and scored two total touchdowns.

Quarterback Tyberius Horne passed for 187 yards and three touchdowns.

Miami High (0-1) was led by William Santiago who had five receptions for 60 yards. Trenod Derosiers scored the lone Stingaree touchdown in the third quarter on a 5-yard run.

Due to lightning, the game was called on time played with 8:58 left in the fourth quarter. Both athletic directors decided to end the game.
