Chaminade stays in control in victory over Pace

Chaminade-Madonna used an efficient passing game and a concerted rushing attack to defeat host Monsignor Pace.

“We executed well and hung in there,” Lions coach Marcelo Rodriguez said. “We controlled the ball on the ground and gained some tough yards.”

Chaminade-Madonna was in control as it had a 21-13 lead with 2:02 left in the fourth quarter and the ball on the 1-yard goal line. Chaminade-Madonna then fumbled the ball and Pace recovered it. The Spartans appeared to take it back for a 99-yard touchdown when an inadvertent whistle by the line judge reversed the call, and they instead took over possession on their own 10-yard line.

Three plays later, Lions linebacker Ajai Camacho returned a fumble recovery 7 yards to the end zone to seal the game.

Chaminade-Madonna’s Andre Funchess led the way with 70 rushing yards coupled with 33 receiving yards and a 23-yard touchdown reception. Quarterback Marcelo Rodriguez threw two touchdowns.

Pace quarterback Eric Walker led all rushers with 97 yards on the ground.
