Three scores in second quarter propel Cooper City Cowboys

Coming off a 20-point loss at Coral Springs, Cooper City (1-1) rebounded by dominating visiting Coral Reef (1-1).

Junior Patrick Pulliam led the Cowboys (1-1) with 120 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown. Pulliam’s 1-yard TD run for the game’s first score capped a 12-play, 62-yard drive that took 6:54 off the clock.

Cooper City scored all its first-half points in the second quarter for a 21-0 lead at intermission.

Coral Reef (1-1) also hurt itself with 15 penalties for 121 yards.

Cooper City scored on runs by Nicholas Villareal (1 yard), and quarterback Tyler Sabine (8 yards). Linebacker Terry Whittington set up both scores on a fumble recovery and an interception in Coral Reef territory.

Defense accounted for Cooper City’s 28-0 lead when Josh Lovins scooped up a fumble and raced 80 yards for the score less than a minute into the second half. He later picked off a pass in the Barracuda’s final possession to finish with two takeaways.

Coral Reef avoided the shutout early in the fourth when Jeremy Fernandez threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Normington.
