Of the three Miami-Dade County teams invited to Georgia’s Battle of the Borders Football Classic, Norland was the only one not ranked nationally. The Vikings, however, scored the most impressive victory, blanking MLK (Georgia) 30-0 behind a stellar defensive effort. Carlton Davis had two of Norland’s four interceptions.


Sheldrick Redwine and Jaquan Johnson, Killian, football: Redwine returned an interception for a touchdown and blocked a punt, and Johnson also had an interception and returned a fumble for a touchdown to lead the Cougars to a 20-16 win over Carol City.

Maury Ramos, Hialeah Gardens, football: Ramos had 104 yards on 14 carries to lead the Gladiators to a 26-0 win against Westland Hialeah that snapped a 30-game losing streak.

Sheyanne Sullivan, Southwest, girls’ volleyball: Sullivan had 27 kills and 24 digs combined to lead Southwest to wins over Ferguson and Lourdes to start its season.

Yanely Garcia, Braddock, girls’ volleyball: Garcia had 16 kills, 13 digs and five aces to lead the Bulldogs to a tough four-game win over Coral Gables.

Chris Nido, Gulliver, boys’ golf: Nido shot a 71 to win the individual title and lead Gulliver to the team championship of the Westminster Christian Invitational.

Tanya Eathakotti, Carrollton, girls’ golf: Eathakotti shot a 74 to finish a Dade-best third at the Archbishop McCarthy Lady Maverick Invitational.

Diego Mateus, Hialeah Gardens, boys’ swimming and diving: Mateus won the 100 butterfly to lead the Gladiators over Coral Reef.

Jessica Rodriguez, Hialeah Gardens, girls’ swimming and diving: Rodriguez won the 100 breaststroke to lead the Gladiators to a win over Mourning.
