Late in the third quarter, Coral Gables sophomore Al Wajid Aminu was fouled hard on a dunk attempt and lay on the court for 22 minutes before he was placed a stretcher.
According to Coral Gables athletic director Louis Romero, Aminu was taken to Miami Children’s Hospital for observation.
Coral Gables would rally late and a basket by Imani Figuereo made the score 53-46 with 1:34 to play.
Thanks to clutch foul shooting and key rebounds, the Cobras were able to hang on for the win.
“I feel like we have a great chance and this team is special and we have a lot of potential,” said South Miami’s Joseph Lopez. “I think we’re going to win it [states].”
Clark had a game-high with 24 points. Lopez had a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
