Balanced attack sparks Champagnat in win vs. Delray Village Academy

Michael Frederick rushed for 127 yards on 13 carries as Champagnat beat Delray Village Academy 34-18 in a Region 4-2A semifinal Friday night at the Ansin Sports Complex.

The Lions (11-0) will face Belle Glade Glades Day (8-3) next week in the region final.

Delray Village Academy fell to 4-6.

After a 6-6 first quarter, the Lions went up late in the first half on a 5-yard run by Joseph Wishby and led 14-6 at halftime.

The Lions extended the lead in the third quarter on a 10-yard touchdown catch by Darnell Salomon.

Kalyn “Kato” Nelson led Champagnat with 31 passing yards, two touchdowns and 59 yards rushing. Salomon had 18 receiving yards on two receptions, both touchdowns.

Jaiden Francois decommitted from the Miami Hurricanes last year when Manny Diaz left to become the coach of the Temple Owls. Now the South Dade safety is back in the fold with Diaz taking over as UM’s coach.
