Coral Reef responded to the firing of former coach Chevas Clements earlier in the week with a win over Hialeah at Harris Field.
The Barracudas (6-4, 2-2 District 16-8A) forced a running clock on the Thoroughbreds (6-4, 4-1 District 13-8A), who will be in the playoffs next week.
“They played it for Coach [Clements],” said interim coach Billy Rolle, who was most recently Northwestern’s head coach. “It takes a special group to get it together like that after the situation with the coach.’’
Duke-bound Coral Reef quarterback Nico Pierre threw for two scores and ran for another. He finished with 64 yards on 5-of-11 passing, two interceptions and 30 rushing yards.

Jordan Edwards ran for 103 yards on 13 carries and Marcus Leslie punched in two more scores on the ground.
This is not the way Hialeah (6-4, 4-1 District 13-8A) wanted to head into the playoffs. The Thoroughbreds now prepare for a regional quarterfinal matchup with Coral Gables.
