Miami Country Day girls’ volleyball team wins district title

The Miami Country Day girls’ volleyball team took home the District 13-5A championship for the fifth year in a row

with a 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 victory over Sagemont on Monday night.

Kayla Kotalik led the way for the Spartans (17-8) with 10 kills, five aces and four digs, followed by Brooke Pumo with 10 kills and seven digs. Lauren Gold registered four kills and three blocks, Sasha Jenkins had 24 assists and three digs, and Adriana Vivas had 17 digs.

Miami Country Day will host Palmer-Trinity on 7 p.m. Tuesday in the regional quarterfinals.

The South Miami girls’ soccer team (1-0) defeated Edison 3-2.



The Cobras (1-0) were led by Madison Askew, who scored two goals in the win. Giselle Schreiber added one goal and one assist. Donesiha Carballo also had one assist.

Sunset 3, Coral Park 1: Eddy Pineiro led the way for the Knights (1-0) with two goals in the win.

Oscar Alva scored one goal, Chele Fernandez had two assists, and Jonathan Diaz had one assist.
