Miami Beach wins district opener against Miami High

The Hi Tides (3-0, 1-0) rolled past the Stingarees (2-1, 0-1) to get a win in their district 14-8A opener at Curtis Park.

Miami Beach got on the scoreboard first when Brent Baker scored on a 95-yard touchdown run with 1:43 to play in the first half.

The Hi Tides got the ball back a minute later when they recovered a Miami High fumble. Quarterback Steve Hollingsworth found Markel Anderson open for a 43-yard touchdown pass. Miami Beach led 14-0 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Hi Tides scored again when Anderson found the end zone on a 75-yard run.

Anderson led the Hi Tides with 119 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
