Nico Pierre plunged into pay dirt to cap off Coral Reef’s emotional 21-20 victory against Killian on Friday afternoon.
Coral Reef (3-1) did not score in the first three quarters, but the Barracudas rallied for 14 points in the fourth quarter and seven in overtime for the victory.
“We were losing the whole game,” Barracudas coach Chevas Clements said. “So coming off of a loss the way we had last week, our kids had the character and the faith and were able to hold onto their emotions.”
After going 82 yards in 10 plays and six minutes, Coral Reef fumbled its opening drive and was out of rhythm most of the first half.

Killian (1-3) scored first on an 8-yard pass from Nigel Dillard to Jaquan Johnson to go up 7-0 in the second quarter.
“To fight for 48 minutes and get the victory like this, I think we grew up this week [more] than maybe we did last week during the loss,” Clements said.
After 36 minutes and zero points to show, Coral Reef scored on Treshez Ellzey’s 3-yard run to tie the game. Jordan Herrera’s 7-yard scamper put the Cougars on top 14-7 with 5:44 remaining.
Leslie sent the game to overtime with his 6-yard score with 3:24 remaining. The Cougars scored on the second play of overtime on a Jamaal Burgess run but missed the extra point to take a 20-14 lead. But it was Pierre who slammed into the end zone with a 1-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-goal to tie the score, and the win was sealed with the extra point.
