Last week’s best Miami-Dade performances


The South Dade wrestling team won its seventh consecutive regional title by dominating the Region 4-3A meet. Leading the Bucs were six individual champions – Patricio Lugo (152 pounds), Ozzy Lugo (126), Olson Delisca (113), Justin Ramirez (145), Isaiah Crosby (160) and Chei Hill (195).

Other wrestling regional champions - Alex Victor, Braddock 106 – 3A), Jordan Marshall (Southridge 120 – 3A), Anthony Kinsey (Southridge 132 – 3A), Maykel Dolorit (Southwest, 170 – 3A), Milton Hope (Braddock 182 – 3A), Darius Hamilton (Southridge, 220 – 3A), Mel Moss (Palmetto, HWT – 3A), Julian Ramirez (Belen 138 – 2A), Travon Norman (Homestead 160 – 2A), Stephen Moreno (Pace 113 – 1A), Brevin Balmaceda (Keys Gate, 120 – 1A), Alexander Perez (Pace 138 – 1A).


Alex Martinez, Braddock, baseball: Martinez struck out seven in a three-hitter as the Bulldogs beat Coral Gables 2-0.

Evan Steinman, Palmer Trinity, baseball: Steinman went 5 for 10 with three doubles, a triple, a grand slam and seven RBI last week for the Falcons.

Ally Mena, Westminster Christian, softball: Mena went 7 for 10 with four RBI to lead the Warriors to wins over McArthur, Western and University School.

Natasha Gonzalez, Lourdes, softball: Gonzalez went 3 for 5 with a single, double and an RBI to help the Bobcats comeback from a seven-run deficit and beat Coral Gables 14-13.

Nick Diaz, Sunset, boys’ track and field: Diaz won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters at the Hallandale Invitational.

Twanisha Terry, Northwestern, girls’ track and field: Terry won the 100 and 200 meters to lead the Bulls to the championship of the Hallandale Invitational.

Santiago Uribe, Mourning, boys’ tennis: Uribe won his singles match 8-5 to lead the Sharks to a win over Doral.

Alyssa Pujals, Gulliver, girls’ tennis: Pujals won both her singles matches to lead the Raiders to wins over Krop and Westminster Christian.

Jonathan Sourber, Palmer Trinity, boys’ lacrosse: Sourber had 12 saves to lead the Falcons to a 12-4 win over Westminster Christian.

Miguel Hernandez, MAST, boys’ water polo: Hernandez had eight goals, 13 assists and 13 steals to lead the Makos to wins over Sunset and Miami Springs.

Alexandra Guerra, Gulliver, girls’ water polo: Guerra had 17 goals, 11 assists and 15 steals to lead the Raiders to wins over Krop, Boca Raton, Sunset and Riviera Beach Suncoast.

Michael Colonna, Ransom Everglades, boys’ volleyball: Colonna totaled 36 kills, 21 assists, four blocks and four aces in wins against Coral Park, Columbus and Coral Gables.
