Palmetto is Miami-Dade County’s top badminton team once again.

For the second consecutive year, the competition went down to the wire, but Palmetto was able to secure its second consecutive GMAC championship and first outright title since 2014. Last year, Palmetto and Killian split the team championship.

Scoring nine points Wednesday at the Braddock gym, Palmetto edged Killian and Reagan, which tied for the runner-up spot with seven points each.

The Panthers’ boys’ and girls’ doubles teams highlighted their victory by winning championships in each of those divisions.

Kevin Lee and Vic Song paired up to win the boys’ title with a 21-18, 21-8 victory over Terra’s Patrick Chang and Anthony Lee. Maria Butler and Keeley Hagan teamed up to win the girls’ title with a 21-19, 23-21 win over Reagan’s team of Begona Alberdi and Isabella Pacheco.

Reagan’s Brian Bangoy and Goleman’s Alyssa Moore each repeated as GMAC singles champions.

Moore secured the girls’ title with a 21-3, 21-6 triumph over Killian’s Amanda Garcia.

Bangoy won the boys’ championship with a 21-8, 21-10 victory over Southwest’s Leonardo Sanchez.

Ferguson’s Megan Morales and Shahid Adam beat Mourning’s Milana Datieva and Josh Silverman for the mixed doubles title, 21-19, 21-12.

Team scores: 1. Palmetto 9; 2. Killian and Reagan 7; 4. Southwest 5; 5. Ferguson and Goleman 4; 7. Mourning, Braddock and Terra 3; 10. Coral Park 2; 11. Coral Gables, Sunset and Coral Reef 1.
