Northeast greeted Lakeland Kathleen, Ray Lewis’ alma mater, for its first of two trips to Broward County this season.
Despite 240 yards on 19-of-25 passing for quarterback Brion Sanchious, Northeast fell 20-14 on Saturday afternoon at Miramar High in a game that was held back a total of 1 hour 49 minutes over two lightning delays.
Shortly after Kathleen (2-0) took a 13-point lead, Northeast struck quickly on its first play of the ensuing drive with an 80-yard touchdown pass from Sanchious to Darrion Pourteous.
Two plays later, the Hurricanes (0-2) got the ball back on a fumble recovery, but their comeback attempt was stunted with a swift four-and-out offensively.
Sanchious also hit Brian Sharp on a 56-yard touchdown in the third quarter for Northeast's first touchdown.
