Sagemont girls lose first basketball game this season

Despite Jessica Black’s 19 points, Sagemont suffered its first loss of the season against Seffner Christian 54-45 at the Dunbar Classic in Fort Myers on Saturday.

Peyton Walker led the way for Seffner with 25 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 5 of 8 from three-point range.

Sagemont (2-1) led throughout the first half and enjoyed a 17-11 halftime lead. The second half, though, was all Seffner (1-1) as it outscored Sagemont 22-16 in the third quarter to tie the score at 33 going into the final quarter.

Seffner outscored the Royal Lions 21-12 in the fourth quarter. The nine-point difference proved to be the difference in the matchup.

Erica Correa fell a point and a rebound shy of a double-double as she registered nine points and nine rebounds. Black added five rebounds.

Seffner won the battle behind the three-point line as it knocked down eight shots from long range while Sagemont only netted one three-pointer in the game.

Sara Denny scored 10 points for Seffner while shooting 3 of 9 from behind the three-point line.

Michael Green scored 24 points, but South Plantation could not withstand a dominant showing by Spanish River as it lost 71-58 in a preseason tune-up.

Geno Guiford added 10 points for the Paladins.

American Heritage 3, Orlando Hagerty 1

: American Heritage remained perfect as it defeated Orlando Hagerty.

The Patriots were led by Zandy Soree, Melanie Monteagudo and Nia Gomez. Michaela Kopecki assisted on two of the three goals scored.

With the win, the Patriots improved to 10-0 on the season and will play at Boynton Beach on Tuesday.


Late Friday – North Broward 5, Berkeley 3:

Morgan Sherman participated in all the scoring as North Broward (5-1-1) eked past Berkeley.

Sherman scored three goals and assisted on two others.

Rachel Blow added a goal and two assists, and Taylor Wells scored a goal of her own. Sam Susi recorded four saves.
