Blanche Ely upsets undefeated Cardinal Gibbons

Blanche Ely senior running back Terrance Blands’ 1-yard touchdown run as time expired gave the Tigers the upset against previously unbeaten Cardinal Gibbons (7-1) on Friday night at Dr. Bud Tight Field.

Following a punt, the visiting Tigers (3-5) took over from their own 20-yard line with 1:54 remaining. Senior quarterback Nelson Ervin completed five passes on the 11-play drive, including a 34-yard strike to senior Kenneth Rawls on fourth-and-4 with 11.1 seconds left.

In the first, the Tigers grabbed a 3-0 lead on a 16-play drive, culminating on junior Charite Carmeley’s 44-yard field goal.
