Former St. Thomas Aquinas receiver injured in car accident

National prep powerhouse Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas is closely monitoring the status of former star receiver Mark Barr following a fatal one-car accident on Saturday which left the University of Cincinnati redshirt freshman in critical condition.

According to reports, Barr, two teammates and a player from Miami University were on their way back from the Cincinnati-Miami (Ohio) game when the accident occurred.

St. Thomas Aquinas athletic director George Smith said the Raiders have been staying on top of the situation as best they can with phone calls to the Cincinnati area.

“There was a car accident,’’ Smith said. “We understand one person was killed and three other people were injured. Mark Barr was one of them. His condition is being reevaluated on Sunday night. He is in emergency care. That is all we know at this time.”

Ben Flick, an offensive lineman, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Barr and Javon Harrison were air-lifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The driver of the vehicle had not been identified as of Sunday morning.

Barr, a 6-1, 163 pound wide receiver, had 33 catches for 741 yards to help Aquinas (12-2) win the Class 7A state title last season.
