Ryan Stanley powers Flanagan in win against Boyd Anderson

Flanagan jumped out 6-0 on a 13-yard fumble recovery by Donte Brown for a touchdown on the first play of the game and never looked back as the Falcons defeated Boyd Anderson 28-15 at Flanagan on Thursday night.

Boyd Anderson (0-3) responded with a 92-yard kickoff return for touchdown by Derrick Tindal, but Tindal attempted a front flip into the end zone. He sustained a leg injury on the showman act and was out for the rest of the game.

At that point, so were the Cobras.

The rest of the story was the quick passing attack of the Falcons (3-0), led by junior quarterback Ryan Stanley, who was 17 for 27 for 215 yards, two touchdown passes and a 2-yard touchdown run as Flanagan built a 26-6 lead midway through the first half.

Robert Foy caught a short pass, broke a couple of tackles and raced for a 59-yard touchdown. After recovering a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Stanley hit Emonee Spence in the middle of the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown pass pushing the lead to 20. Foy had four catches for 83 yards and a touchdown.

While it was still early, Flanagan coach Devin Bush played a lot of his younger players as the Falcons defense dominated Boyd Anderson throughout.

Backup freshman quarterback Stanford Samuels played well in spurts replacing Stanley. He was 4 for 11 for 41 yards, but the freshman gives Bush another dimension to his team. Bush gave him a lot of playing time against a quality opponent.

It hasn’t been a good start to the Cobras’ season following a 10-3 campaign that saw them advance to the regional finals. The Cobras have been blown out in each of their first three games and are left looking for answers with both quarterbacks dealing with injuries as they head into another tough game next week at home against Cardinal Gibbons.
