Coconut Creek’s Jhakari Harrison finishes stellar career in record-breaking fashion

Coconut Creek quarterback Jhakari Harrison had matched the Broward County passing touchdown record twice this season, but both times left him with more to be desired.

He wanted the record to himself.

On Friday against Northeast, in the last high school game of his career, he did it.

"I knew that Friday night was the night I was going to get it. It was my last game. I had to go out with a bang," said Harrison, a Southern Illinois commit. "I told myself I've got to do something to leave a mark in South Florida."

Harrison was an incredibly efficient 12-of-17 passing for 360 yards and a record eight touchdown passes in the 55-0 victory.

Even more incredible -- he was playing with a high ankle sprain.

He did a little more than that when eight of his 12 completions went for scores.

The main objective for him wasn't the personal achievement. It was to spread the wealth and get every senior receiver a touchdown.

"I wanted to give them something to remember in their last game, so I took care of them," Harrison said.

Harrison threw for seven touchdowns earlier this season against Boyd Anderson and Stranahan. In the Stranahan win, he also ran an eighth one in and eclipsed the 100-total-touchdown plateau for his career.

Harrison, who started since he was a freshman, finished his senior season as Broward's leader in passing yards (3,117) and touchdowns (41).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

The two top girls’ basketball recruits in South Florida – 6-2 senior forward Mikiah "Kiki" Harrigan of Flanagan and 5-10 senior guard Jacaira "Iggy" Allen of Dillard – have chosen to play for out-of-state universities.

Both had Miami among their finalists.

Harrigan chose South Carolina, which is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the preseason poll and made the Final Four last season. Harrigan is ranked 74th nationally on ESPN’s list of the top Class of 2016 recruits.

Allen, ranked 77th by ESPN, chose Mississippi State, which is ranked 11th and made the NCAA’s second round last season, finishing 27-7.

The two players, who are AAU teammates on the Miami Suns, will now be SEC rivals.
