Holliday leads South Miami to victory

Bryce Holliday led host South Miami with 151 rushing yards and three total touchdowns as the Cobras (1-4, 1-3) were able to hang on against Mourning (0-4, 0-3) for a 20-12 victory Friday evening. The game was the first high school football game played at South Miami Senior High School in the past 15 years.

"It was an ugly win, but we came together as a team and that's a good sign for the rest of the season," Holliday said.

Holliday scored on a 98-yard touchdown run on a read option play early in the second quarter. Had he not pulled the ball out for the run, the play would have resulted in a safety. Holliday added a 10-yard touchdown run just before halftime.

South Miami led 20-0 going into the fourth quarter. Mourning started a comeback when quarterback Danny Pierre-Louis found Justin Days for a 43-yard touchdown. After the score the Sharks recovered an onside kick.

Pierre-Louis throw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Wendy Celestin on the next drive which was also followed by an onside kick recovery. On both Mourning scores, a two point conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

South Miami was able to shutdown Mourning on its final drive with a chance to tie.

Pierre-Louis led Mourning with 185 passing yards and added 48 rushing yards.
