With his father in tears hugging him, Zack Ryder celebrated winning the WWE Intercontinental title to start WrestleMania 32 on Sunday, April 3 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, near Dallas.
The huge victory for the fan favorite Ryder at Mania ended over a decade of futility for the hard working WWE superestar.
It looked like Sami Zayn would win the ladder match for the IC belt, but The Miz spoiled his and the crowd’s WrestleMania moment by tipping over the ladder. Miz was set to be the new Intercontinental champ, but the must see superstar gloated atop the ladder, giving Ruder just enough time to foil that effort.
Ryder unhooked the belt, and history made. Fans, including his father, who wore a Superman shirt, erupted into a frenzy.

Dolph Ziggler, billed from Hollywood, Florida, was the first WWE superstar to be introduced at WrestleMania 32 for the Intercontinental ladder match. The A-lister The Miz entered the ring next, and then Sami Zayn, who waited 14 years to get to WrestleMania, walked that aisle. Stardust, Sin Cara and Zack Ryder made their ways to the ring. It marked the first time Ryder’s music played at a WrestleMania. The crowd gave Intercontintal champ Kevin Owens a loud ovation.
Fans loved it when friends and rivals Owens and Zayn squared off, punching the heck out of each other. Fans chanting “Ole! Ole! Ole!” for Zayn. Stardust reached under the ring and grabbed a special made ladder, which matched his outfit of yellow polka dots on black to honor his father, the late, great American Dream Dusty Rhodes.
Owens pushed Sin Cara off the top of the ladder, and he landed through Stardust perched on another ladder, draped across the ring and front row guardrail.
Later in the show, Maria Menounos, wearing a Shane McMahon shirt, interviewed a hyped Ryder backstage.
Chris Jericho pinned AJ Styles in a stellar second match. Jericho’s face shocked when Styles kicked out of the code-breaker. Jericho repaid the favor by surviving the Styles Clash. A second code-breaker as Styles went for the Phenomenal Forearm off the top rope ended it.
Big Leaguers, Legends
League of Nations (Wade Barrett, Alberto del Rio, Rusev, Sheamus) beat the New Day. With the assist to Wade Barrett, Sheamus pinned Xavier Woods.
Entering the stadium from inside a giant 20-foot box of BootyO’s, the WWE tag team champs New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods) received a huge ovation. Fans chanting “New Day Rocks” while Woods played Francesca II. The League of Nations kicked the BootyO’s sprinkled across the stage.
Sheamus forearm smashed Woods while chanting “New Day Sucks.”
Barrett spoke arrogantly after the victory, only to be interrupted by HBK Shawn Michaels, Cactus Jack Mike Foley and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
New Day pulled out Barrett. Foley reached for Sock-O, and Sheamus tasted it. HBK super-kicked Del Rio, and Stone Cold stunned Rusev. Barrett ate his words, receiving all three. Then New Day got HBK, Foley and even Stone Cold to dance until Austin gave Woods a stunner. The three legends celebrated with Steve-weisers as the audience went nuts.
