University of Miami President Julio Frenk visited practice Tuesday morning and addressed the Hurricanes.
Also there practicing, defensive tackle Gerald Willis, who has been on a leave of absence for an undisclosed reason. I was told he still will not play this season, but obviously we will ask coach Mark Richt about that later.
Here’s some of what Frenk, accompanied by UM athletic director Blake James, told us he said to the players: “The message is, A. That we are very appreciative of the fabulous job that Coach Richt and the entire coaching staff have carried forward to put together an outstanding team, that we appreciate their hard work on the field and in the classrooms and that we’re committed to their success as athletes and as students.
“I want them to see them win as many games as possible, but most of all win the game of life, which is the real prize here. We’re committed to supporting them to be successful on and off the field.’’

So, President Frenk, how do you think Miami will do on the field this year?
“I think it’s going to do very well. At the same time I want our players to know that we’re with them and that we’re committed to their well-being, to making sure that their education here puts them on the right path to pursue whatever goals they have set for themselves individually. But I predict we have a terrific team and I know we’re going to have a great season.’’
