Winston named QB
After weeks of kicking the proverbial can down the street when it came to naming a starting quarterback, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher finally picked redshirt freshman Jameis Winston to be his team’s next signal-caller on Friday afternoon.
Despite a strong showing from redshirt freshman Jameis Winston during the Seminoles’ spring practice and in last April’s Garnet and Gold game, Fisher gave redshirt sophomore Jacob Coker a chance to make his case over the course of FSU’s preseason camp.
After nursing an ankle injury that hindered him in spring, Coker made it a close competition to replace EJ Manuel during the past few weeks of fall practice.

“This is one of the toughest decisions I’ve had to go through,” Fisher said. “I say this and this is not coach talk, we truly have two very good quarterbacks. And guys, I’d feel very comfortable with either one of them in the game.
“But, we named the starter, it’ll be Jameis. I’m very comfortable with that but I’m also very comfortable with Jake’s performance too.”
