I have been to Rio several times, and it is one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in the world. Copacabana Beach, Sugar Loaf, Christ Redeemer, Carnival, night life, great weather and general joy of living are highlights, among others.
But the media were too negative about the Rio Olympics, emphasizing shortcomings such as crime, traffic, water pollution, Zika and poor attendance at some Olympic events. Most major cities in the world also have crime, pollution and traffic problems without Rio’s beauty and the weather.
It’s amazing how relatively well the Rio Olympics went, considering the country’s economic and political turmoil. I congratulate Brazil for this achievement under difficult circumstances.
