Re the April 30 article, Soldier who beat up Afghan officer for raping boy can stay in Army: What our Special Forces member did to protect the Afghan boy who was chained and raped by an Afghan military commander, was a lot less than this man deserved.
Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland should receive a medal when he returns home. Our U.S. command in Afghanistan made a cowardly decision to discharge this brave soldier for defending a boy from sexual abuse. He is the kind of soldier we need and one to be so proud of.
I’d like to know what Afghan official was going to handle this abuse when it was an Afghan militia commander. Maybe we should inform them that from now on our men will not ignore something like this when we are in their country trying to make it better for them.
