Solares: Ready to work for Miami

In response to the Miami Herald’s recommendation in my race, I want readers to hear directly from me on why I am running. As your city commissioner, I will bring our communities together with regular neighborhood public meetings to increase public participation in government decisions. I will bring our police and community leaders together so we can implement new tools to fight crime. I will move forward with a smart-growth plan to ensure we are doing the right development projects for the city. We can achieve affordable and workforce housing, more green space and fund infrastructure needs with a smart growth approach.

When it comes to traffic congestion, I am ready to go with three ideas. We must extend the trolley throughout the city of Miami. We need to work with the County to improve the PeopleMover by extending its hours and ensuring that it is clean and attractive.

I also support Commissioner Francis Suarez’s proposal to establish a transparent and accountable Transportation Trust Fund for bring reliable public transportation to our city. The trust fund will assure that the city will have a meaningful seat at the table with the county and the state to move forward with solutions such as bringing TriRail to Downtown Miami or connecting Miami to Miami Beach with light rail.

We need fresh leadership representing District 2, but it must be matched with knowledge and experience to get things done. I am ready to get to work. These issues are not new to me because I have been a committed community advocate for nearly two decades, working to find sensible solutions to the problems of the day.

If elected, you can count on me to be someone who will listen to all sides and support efforts that make our city a great place to work, play and visit.

Grace Solares, candidate for Miami’s District 2, Miami
