Political literacy

All rights come with responsibilities. However, when we speak about our rights as Americans, sometimes we forget that a major part of honoring them is through choosing who will represent us. There is no better time to remember this than with the upcoming November elections.

With the primaries now over, I’m excited to officially welcome Gov. Rick Scott and former Gov. Charlie Christ to the Oct. 15 debate at Bailey Hall on Broward College’s Central Campus.

Broward College will host a series of community civic-engagement events that aim to encourage political literacy and immerse us in the political process. At these events, we will be able to get involved, learn, think critically and evaluate the Florida issues that will matter most in the upcoming election. This isn’t only a fantastic opportunity for my fellow students and me, but also for the community.
