Back on May 1, 2008 and then again on May 28, 2009, I wrote to the Miami Herald regarding Miami Beach synagogues that were vandalized and set ablaze. In light of the recent murder of a rabbi, I hope you will publish this letter.
After the earlier incidents, I called on then-Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower to step up and protect her citizens from danger and to find and punish those responsible for such repugnant criminal acts.
Not only was no one ever punished for the crimes, no one was ever charged.
Then on Dec. 3, 2013 various religious buildings on Miami Beach were vandalized with antisemitic messages. Again, no one was caught. No one was punished.

Then on July 28, private vehicles owned by Jews and a synagogue in North Miami Beach have been vandalized and marked with antisemitic messages.
When will our elected leaders wake up and actually take this seriously? What is it going to take for them to pay attention.
I am hopeful Mayor Phillip Levine will take a different approach and let it be known that this type of behavior will not be tolerated.
