Anyone who has visited Florida International University’s main campus lately knows that it needs more space, and the most logical space is right next door. While this huge field stays vacant for 11 months out of the year, FIU is bustling every single day. While the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair migrates to the field every year, FIU cannot pick up and relocate. One of these things is not like the other.
The fair deserves a fair deal, but it cannot claim that clinging to its current location is justified when the 50,000-plus students and employees at FIU really need the space.
As a former student and employee at FIU, and as someone who enjoys visiting the fair, I trust the county to do the right thing and find the fair a new home.
