Ensuring fairness

It was unfortunate that the two assistant Broward public defenders terminated for their comments on a social-media outlet were so imprecise.

Generally speaking, attorneys, and I am one, are careful about what we say and where we say it.

On Facebook, the lawyers excoriated the killers of three Israeli teenagers labeling them “cockroaches” and “filthy swine.”

Who can deny that these were apt descriptions of the terrorists who perpetrated cruel murders, regardless of their race or religion?

Their comments, however, left the impression that the descriptions applied to all Palestinians. As a consequence, and appropriately, Broward Public Defender Howard Finkelstein fired them, in an effort to assure that there is fairness and equal treatment accorded to all people coming into contact with the public defender.
