A sad ending: Florida man arrested in Taco Bell tussle

Florida sees its fair share of curious, scary and often weird mug shots — but Gabriel Harris’ involuntary head shot may be the saddest of them all.

All the 33-year-old New Smyrna Beach man wanted was some late-night Taco Bell to satisfy his allegedly alcohol-infused hunger. The only thing he was served up, however, was a wrestling match with an officer and a scrape on his forehead.

When an intoxicated Harris tried to order at the drive-through window early Sunday, employees would not serve him because he was on his bicycle. Harris refused to leave after having placed his order as the restaurant was closing just after 3 a.m., so employees called New Smyrna police.

When officers arrived at the restaurant at 1860 State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach, they found Harris on his bike by the menu speaker, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported. As police asked him to leave, they noticed a red Swiss Army knife on his belt loop and tried to reach for it. Harris grabbed the officer’s wrist and was then wrestled to the ground and arrested.

Harris was booked into Volusia County Branch Jail and charged with resisting arrest with violence. He was released on $1,000 bond, the News-Journal reported.

He let his feelings be known with a big frown for his booking mug.

Sunday wasn’t Harris’ first run-in with the law. He was arrested for resisting an officer without violence in early August. He appeared happier in his mugshot then.
