Central North Carolina, including the Triangle and surrounding counties, is under a high-wind warning until 8 a.m. today and under a tornado watch until noon as a cold front approaches from the west, according to the National Weather Service in Raleigh.
Winds of 40 mph to 50 mph are possible, the service said.
Wind gusts of up to 35 mph were reported overnight at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, weather service meteorologist Brandon Dunstan said.
Dunstan said the tornado watch may be extended and advised residents to pay close attention to weather updates.
"Keep up with what's going on and be prepared to take action in case a warning is issued," he said.
